Help With Decision Ccu Or Er

I have been an RN for 8 months. I was also an LVN for 3 years. I have worked in the ED this whole time and even as a tech. I am confused about going to a trauma center or another big hospital to the CCU. I have been taking a critical care class and am very interested in IABP and drips. My dilemma is am I going to be bored? I like to sweat at work. I like to be busy and am ready for anything. Should I as a new RN get some other exp under my belt or just go for it. I would like to attain my MICN as well. I have some co-workers that think I should get some critical care then go to a trauma facility. I mean a level 1 trauma center is going to teach me critical care there right? If anyone has some good advice please share.

Re: Help With Decision Ccu Or Er

You might br bored out of your mind in CCU. I did critical care for ten years, ER for the past three. Should have moved years ago. CCU is very obsessive/compulsive, and repetitive.

Re: Help With Decision Ccu Or Er

If you like fast pace rapid turnover ER is for you. If you like a slower pace with adrenoline thrown in once in a while you would like critical care. I did ER when I was much younger and CCU when I got older and every now and then I would sign up for ER for a little action.

Re: Help With Decision Ccu Or Er

Working in Trauma and working in ICU are both critical care. But they have somewhat different focuses. Pace of ICU can be slower than ER/Trauma just depending on your patients and what is going on with them.
