Help! Any Jacksonville FL nurses out there?

Hello there, I'm a newbie & I will be moving to the Jacksonville area this summer. I know nothing about the town or its hospitals. I have 18mos. exp. in a level 3 ER and I'm scared outta my wits! I would really like some real trauma experience so I was thinking of Shands, but with so little exp. I'm afraid I'm biting off more than I can chew...I just don't know, so if anyone out there has ANY advice for me on the hospitals or the city or anything I would appreciate it sooooo much!

Re: Help! Any Jacksonville FL nurses out there?

Shands is divided between the trauma center and ER. Both are basically the same unit however. It probably will not be a problem getting hired in the ED. Last I heard there was some what of a waiting list to get in to the trauma center. It is definitely worth applying to though. Jacksonville is a cool town. Lots of rednecks on every corner, crappy surf most of the time, but decent wind to keep the kiteboarders happy. Good luck.
