Was helping the triage nurse one day and this patient came in carrying a Jigsaw (small electric saw usually for cutting wood) which just happened to have his finger smashed into it. The triage nurse says, "What brought you into the ED today?" The patient actually had a great attitude about the whole thing and stated, "Well Ma'am I just thought you might need this jigsaw". I was cracking up. The slip ended up saying, "Finger caught in saw".
BTW patient was fine ended up losing finger nail and maintenance had to come with their toolbox so we could get the finger loose.
probably the patient skipped taht day in high school when the teacher is trying to teach how to spell esophagus... so he wrote it the way he would say it...
I should start keeping a list of some of the funny things patient's have written that I get to interpret. Some that come to mind..
inersimm (aneurysm)
insefiatittes (encephalitis) <-- this was a very memorable one, probably because of the amount of time it took to decipher what was meant
and I've seen many amusing spellings of diarrhea
