Well, lately I've been giving things a lot of thought. I've been out of school for a year now, so have been trying to figure out where I want to head in my career. Was thinking about going to paramedic school...used to be an EMT and I really enjoy EMS. The drawback with paramedic school was that it was going to push back my plans to go back for my MSN by a semester to a year.
So...I figure I won't do that, but I'll go ahead and get my TNCC, ENPC, and maybe PHTLS and some others. I'll also start studying for my CEN and CCRN. I plan on going back to school the fall of '03 for the FNP and/or maybe Acute Care NP program. I'll go part-time, and do it over 3-4 years. Wouldn't mind doing a little Legal Nurse Consulting on the side some day either.
Anyone else out there have a "master game plan?"

Hey, if you are that ambitious, go for it. I've been a nurse for almost 10 years, in the ER for 2 1/2, and keep thinking about getting my CEN. But other outside interests keep pushing it to the back burner. I'll do it someday.... I'm not saying I'm burned out, but my job isn't my life. I have my job so I can enjoy life. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Yeah, I figure now is a good time for me to be ambitious...not married, no kids, etc...

ER Nurse - go for it. I didn't become a nurse until I was 32 - been at it now ten years. Wish I could have started sooner, but things have a way of working out for the best, I supose. Now, I've been in my position for six years, have CEN, TNCC, TNS (Trauma Nurse Specialist available in Illinois), etc and really don't have desire to go back to school. However, I always urge people at the beginning to get as much education as they can handle because I believe you can't get enough. Good luck...

Howdy yall
from deep in the heart of texas

You have to decide what is you want, then set out to do it. As an ER nurse you really wont get much out of paramedic school, except that stuff is fun. Thats about all, dont let yourself get sidetracked.

Me I just want to break my low scare of 3 under par at a regulation 18 hole course. In other words I just wanna play more golf.

I wonder if you could be the on-site nurse for a golf course?

i thought that in order to be a flight nurse, you need paramedic cert as well. Is that true?
