Are you racist/prejudiced against Latinos? This could be any large ignorant family, but you choose to make it offensive and divisive by specifying Latinos... as far as the general tone of this thread...I'm a critical care nurse of 20+ years. You don't deter or scare me by calling me names in advance. I would expect these comments from ignorant people, not professionals with people's lives in their hands. You call it blowing off steam, but you should hear the core disrespect and judgemental attitudes you are spewing about other human beings, no matter how uneducated, manipulative, scared or drug seeking they are. You think you can mock in private and pretend to care 5 minutes later, but it SHOWS. It makes me sad for our profession. we are taught to be accepting of everyone, not just those we deem "worthy " of our time and concern. Fix the problem and quit whining. I recently read a few other lists like these...written by waitresses, airline stewardesses and Wal mart employees. What great company we are keeping, looking down our noses at those we pledged to serve.

This is a good place for ER nurses to vent, since they see a lot of tragedies in the ER. They also see a lot of selfish people with a sense of entitlement, who think the world revolves around them.

They see people come in with minor injuries who are rude about the wait, because there are sicker, more seriously injured people who need to be taken care of. These are people who don't care that there is someone in the next room who is not breathing, they want to be waited on right "now".

They see people with minor injuries come in with relatives who demand to be fed, even though that is not the nurses job, and they're rude about the fact that they can't get a free meal. They also see people come in by ambulance to the ER for minor injuries that could have went to the doctor instead, and some of these expect the ambulance to take them back home.(Tying up the ambulance so it takes longer to get to the car accident or heart attack.)

There are a lot of threads here about this kind of selfish nonsense, and like I said, this is a good place to vent the frustrations.

Oh, for the love of Pete, lighten up! When's the last time you had a large gaggle of Swede's stay with the one family member with a sprained ankle? Sometimes, it just is what it is.

Now, now...you know that the Blessed Trinity isn't quite correct. It's really a Quartet...Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and ICU Charge Nurse!

Looking down on people is quite normal when you're seated above the Father.

You purposefully misinterpret what I wrote. We are professionals with responsibility for the lives of others. They are not.

I'm not a charge nurse, not looking down on others and have done my time in the ED. And not surprised that I am on the receiving end of your criticism. Express an opinion, just as long as it's the same as everyone else's. Especially since I was "warned" as early as thread #2!

The last extended family of any race were white protestents. And the ones before that. Before that...Russian orthodox. Gypsies, Latinos, and..Caucasion Catholics! Our hospital encourages and accomodates family centered care. Even in the ED.

Well, when you come on an ER forum, and "chastise" ER nurses for venting about the stresses of working in the ER, what do you expect? Not all of us were built to "suffer in silence." Some of us need to vent, and I can't think of a more appropriate place to do that than here....

The last thing we need or want is to be judged for venting and joking about the things we have to deal with at work. The reason you were "warned" in post #2 is because it NEVER fails, someone will start a thread to vent about their frustrations of make light of daily stresses, and someone with a "holier-than-thou" attitude will jump all over everyone for how "inappropriate, uncaring, and unprofessional" it is to vent on an internet nurse's forum.

And the anthropology lesson really isn't necessary, either...

Please...the one poster about the "latinos" was making an observation. I didn't interpret her post as "looking down on them". For crying out loud!
