Question ER Arm Bands

Who is responsible for putting arm bands on your ER patients?

In our ER, it is the nurses responsibility to apply the arm bands. This can sometimes be difficult if you are tied up with a bad patient. I've always know this to be ER Admissions responsibility. I'm interested to hear what other ERs are doing.

Thanks

Up here it's the the ER administration (where you register and show your OHIP card) who puts the band on the pt. Even when a pt is brought in by ambulance. They drop everything, and make them priority. In labor and delivery the nurses are responsible for the arm bands.

in our ED, the person that witnesses the consent to treat form is the person that applies the arm band.

in our er registration is responsible but it is our resposibility to make sure they are put on. xray won't xray your patient with out one and sometimes they are sent over without and a big deal is made.

registration puts on about 75% of them and we put on the rest.

The responsibility lies with the registration clerk, however, if the patient is acutely ill or a trauma, the band comes attached to the chart and the RN usually applies it after verifying that it is the correct patient, especially important since the sickest patients usually can't acknowledge who they are so they REALLY need the name band.

The registrar clerk, when the patient registers.....or the nurse if the pt happens to get thru with out one. If it is an emergency, the family member register's the pt and the registrar clerk brings the band back to the bed side.
