I don't have time to look through all the threads and this may have been covered recently, it's been awhile since I've been around. I went to a meeting last week, many other depts were there, it was basically about how we can streamline the process of seeing patietn in ED through admission. To me it seems to be a break down in communication and lack of willingness to help that is at the heart of the matter. I want to know if any of you guys use any computer programs to speed things along. We use Cerner Millenium's First Net in the ED here but no one else uses it in the hospital. Do any of you usxe this program and do you see any application for using it to communicate to the floor, request bed etc? Thanks, Wendy

The hospital I used to work at before traveling used Cerner's First Net in the ER. Then the floors used Cerner's Power Chart- the two systems "communicate" with each other well, so that the labs are visible on both systems, and the floor nurses can pull up & view the patient's ER chart.

We use FirstNet in the ER for our patient tracking software, Cerner Powerchart is used everywhere else. It all interfaces with one another and also interfaces with our sister facilities, doctor offices, EMS, etc....so it's pretty nice to find old records and charts.

We don't communicate with the floor on requesting beds with the program because we are a very small facility but our larger sister facility does. I don't know the details but from what we can gather, you request a bed similiar to other "tasks" and then you can track your bed from your FirstNet screen (dirty, clean, available, etc...). My guess is when you d/c the patient, you actually d/c them to the room, which then probably interfaces with admissions and new stickers, facesheets, etc....are now up to date.
