We get no extra compensation. And on my shift, charge nurse takes a full patient load.

Nurse's base starting pay: $19.24/hr.
Charge nurse bonus: $1.00/hr.
Prestige of being entrusted with such an important and highly respected duty: Priceless.

My, how jaded and cynical some of you have become! At my hospital, some of the FNG's actually fight for the chance to do charge, probably because they usually don't have patient assignments.

We get a flat rate $2.50/hr--totally not worth the aggrevation!!

No extra pay, a full load, plenty of grief, no appreciation, and often leave with a migrane.....am I cynical and a bit jaded...sure, and with good reason. I pray for the nights I have a strong staff (which are few and far between)

We get a dollar an hour. And we had to complain to get that. Good grief. Why are we doing this???? I just don't think I can take it anymore. And I work parttime!!! I have to be charge nurse next week, maybe I'll buy some donuts for everyone. at least we'll get something to eat.

No extra pay and usually end up with several hall patients. You can usually be assured that you will be grilled and questioned as to why you decided to handle something a particular way by your director who wasn't there at the time. That director thinks she's in charge of the ED on Fantasy Island or something where everything runs smoothly all the time. Want to talk about jaded?
