ACLS & new grad

In your Ed, when are your new grads going through Acls. If you wouldn't mind, I would also be interested in what type of hospital you are working at, e.g. trauma hospital, community hospital, etc.
Thank you!

Re: ACLS & new grad

In our ED they had new grads wait about 6-12 months before ACLS. They were required to take, and pass a cardiac rhythm course first-one that was in addition to the usual cardiac rhythm requirements.

This was a community hospital.

Ours are supposed to take it and PALS before their preceptorship is over. I'm in a level one hospital with a lot of neuro, so we get a lot of ALS patients.

Level II trauma center; we try to get new grads into ACLS as soon as possible after their orientation is complete. They are required to have it within a year of hire date.
