Interview tips for U of W, my first interview since graduation
|
|
Hello,
I have applies to U of W as a new grad and they have granted me a interview next week.
Since they are a Magnet Hospital I was wondering if they would ask about any specific subjects, policy, or topics in general that I should know...
Should I be reviewing my nurses social policy statement or Scope & Standards of Practice or Code of Ethics or Healthy People 2010 goals and objectives???
I have worked in the food and hospitality industry through nursing school... How are interviews in the medical (nursing) world different from standard interviews???
Any help and or advice is appreciated.

Hi!
How did your interview go?
I'm in the process of applying for new grad positions at UWMC, Harborview, and Swedish. I submitted my resume yesterday through the online application system. If you don't mind me asking, how long was it from the time you submitted your resume and when they contacted you to set up an interview?
Thanks for the help! I greatly appreciate it

Hi,
When I was searching RN positions at Harborview on UWMC's website, nothing showed up. How did you apply for Harborview?
Thanks!

Hi wsong3,
Sorry for the late reply. My preceptorship schedule has been super intense.
Here is the website for Harborview jobs https://www.washington.edu/admin/hr/...hmc/index.html
It is through the same system that UW uses so you use the same logon info. Just search for "nursing" and you can see all the available rn positions. The only "new grad" position they have posted is the "new grad candidate bank" . They don't have specific new grad unit positions posted. When you submit to apply for the candidate bank they will ask you the areas you would be interested in working in. I think this is their process of new grad recruitment.
Hope this helps!

Thank you, Outblush!
I found that "RN bank" and did submit my resume two weeks ago. But nobody contacted me so far. I called nurse recruiter and heard that they were receiving "many many applications". Seemingly it is very competitive at Harborview this year.
Good Luck with your preceptorship and job hunting!

I went through the new grad interview thing w/ UWMC & HMC about five years ago. The UWMC initial interview asked me about compassion, diversity, how I would handle certain situations, etc...; then the second interview w/ nurse managers from specific floors were shorter, about my interests/specifics about the actual job. The HMC initial interview was w/ a non-nurse, so it was pretty easy. Some of the second interviews were short/about job specifics, while a few managers presented clinical scenarios and asked how I would respond. Remember ABCs.
I was offered all five jobs within the same week as interviewing. They're desperate for nurses everywhere. Don't let the magnet thing scare you.

I heard back from UWMC for an interview which I am very excited about. However, they want it in person so I will have to wait until May, after my graduation when I'm back home in Seattle. Hopefully things will work out!
Does anyone have any tips on getting interviews at hospitals. I applied to a few others in the Seattle area and have not had any luck hearing back from them. I know they must be getting slammed with new grad applications right now...is it a good idea to call the recruiter and what should I say/ask besides for "what is the status of my application?" (they probably get that all the time)...
Any help is much appreciated!

I'm having the same problem. I applied some other hospitals but never heard back from them. One nurse recruiter of Harborview did say they were receiving many many many applications this summer. It sounds very competitive this year...
Most of my classmates got job offers while I did not...very stressful...

If you want a job at UWMC or HVM, just keep pursuing them! If you don't hear back from them, it's most likely not because of you, but because they're short-staffed in every level!
