Did you apply at a Sentara Hospital or a Bon Secours Hospital? Both have an online application process, but I can tell you that Sentara definitely uses recruiters as the initial contact. I work for a Sentara hospital (Sentara Leigh in Norfolk). I can give you some advice about the hospitals here...
I am a new grad, but based on my clinicals, and my previous work experience (I was a nursing assistant at a Sentara hospital), Sentara is a better bet for job satisfaction and how they treat their employees and (most important) their patients. I don't know what your specialty is, but I would suggest doing two things: 1. Post a thread stating your location and specialty, and ask for recommendations on good places to work in this area based on that info. 2. go to the Sentara website (
www.sentara.com), and browse their specific job openings, and apply directly through those links, you will probably get a call from a unit manager rather than a recruiter (although they are involved in the hire process).
I can tell you that the hospital where I work is great, and my unit (tele/medicine) is a great place to work. I did a clinical there, and applied before I graduated because I liked it so much.
I would be happy to help you with any other questions you might have.
