Have you heard good things about the Amarillo site... I am applying for the CPNE tomorrow and will either go to Plano or Amarillo.... I would much MUCH rather drive to Amarillo...even though it is 300+ miles more...

Yes, it is strenuous...they don't want to pass people who endanger patients. The greatest cause for failure, however, is NERVES! (forgetting simple things like when to wash hands or not making sure the side rail is up and call light within reach before you leave the room.) The company I work for paid for my books through a publishing company. (I would suggest eBay purchase of the same books...much less expensive). It takes a lot of discipline but having watched fellow students grow into knowledgeable nurses...I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Re: Texas LVNS doing Excelsior College

I have heard good things about them...also, they have a shorter wait list for scheduling CPNEs......also a great hotel about 3 blocks distance away...
I applied for CPNE in January and selected to accept either Plano or Amarillo.....After5 months I contacted them. I got an e-mail asking if I would take Amarillo because they could get me in sooner there. 2 weeks later I had a date.

Good luck! I am both excited and scared witless!

I think Excelsior is a great option & I wish it was for me. I've decided when it's time to becaome a RN to not go that route only because I wish to work in CA,etc down the road. Thank you for the feedback.

Sounds like you know what is best for you....everyone needs to do what works best in their own lives. Good luck with traditional school! Keep us posted when the time comes. :-)

Well Barbara I Am Not In Texas But I Just Finished The Program And I Live In Oklahoma Right Now Hoping To Move To Texas When My Husband Retires. The Program Is Definetly Doable. The Classes That You Do Not Have You Can Pretty Much Take Them Anywhere (cost?). They Will Take Them Just Check With Them But They Took Classes That I Had Taken Almost 9 Years Earlier.

You excess use of capital letters makes your posts extremely hard to read. Please consider typing like every other poster on these forums so that your point of view can be considered.

I wanted to say the same thing but didn't want to offend anyone. It also gives off a "shouting" attitude.

Re: Texas LVNS doing Excelsior College

Just a note if you are thinking about EC...I finished the academic (nursing) portion in 3 months (2/2007-5/2007)and WAS CPNE eligible. I had to put off the test until this summer. Apparently the requirements changed, I found out today I will have to take 5 MORE courses to become eligible again!!I will probably go another route since this will cost an additional 4-5 thousand and everything hinges on a weekend. Good luck and best wishes to all who taking the CPNE soon!

Re: Texas LVNS doing Excelsior College

I would discourage you from dealing with Excelsior. The concept is this: does the casino care if you win? of course not, nor does Excelsior care if you pass. They will profit more if you fail tests and continue to pay more to retest.

Excelsior credits will be very hard to transfer. Look at their courses and show yourself there is no pedi, pharmacology, etc. If you fail or drop out you may find yourself with nursing credits that colleges can't accept.

I would tell you that nursing school is a full time endeavor. It is possible to go to school, work at a job you may not like or want while your in school, but if you want to be an RN, you can do it.
