Hi everyone! How much does anyone know about the nurses getting fingerprinted and background checks in texas. Wasn't this all done when we graduated? Seems like a waste of time and money to do it again. Any thoughts?

I am fairly sure that the school you attended needed a background check; I am sure the State has to do their own, also.

You will need to be fingerprinted and background-checked again. After all, it is possible to have gotten arrested between the time you completed your LVN program and the time you apply for licensure as a vocational nurse. It's all in the name of public safety.

I have been a nurse for 15 years and had background checks and drug test at every job I have worked at and have worked full time the entire 15 years. While I don't have anything to worry about I am just wondering why Texas is doing this and no other states are.

I have another question for you. We seem to be expected to do alot of RN work where I am, and the RN will sign behind us. This includes inital assessments and admissions. Some tell me this is OK and others not. I think I am not the one getting paid to do this - they are - and just push the work off on us. I can do the work and I can do it well but lately it seems I am ask to do more and more of their work plus take care of my 8 to 10 patients I am assigned. What to do?

Return to school and earn an RN license so that you'll really be the one who gets paid more money to do all the work. It might not sound feasible depending on your life situation, but it is the truth.
