O.k here is a silly question. Where are all the african-american nurses at? I was the only one in my nursing class. I am the only one that works on my med surg floor. Is anyone else experiencing this? I grew up in a predominately black city, Baltimore, but here in cali I find that there are far fewer around. Please tell me that there is some sort of diversity in fort worth

In the facility where I work, in south Louisiana, the nursing staff is predominately black.

I am a black female nurse. My neighborhood in Southwest Fort Worth is about 50 percent black, and is a fairly nice place to live. I am employed at a skilled nursing facility that is staffed by mostly black nurses and CNAs.

However, I must warn you about the town in which you're planning to relocate (Burleson). Burleson is 96 percent white, with virtually no diversity. I have observed that black people tend to steer clear of certain towns, especially the ones in Johnson County, which is where Burleson is located. There tends to be more diversity within the Fort Worth city limits.

I just graduated in May and out of a class of 116 I'd say we had at least 20 black students most of whom were African and most were from the Dallas area. I've seen a great amount of diversity in DFW area nursing. Up here north of Dallas, not so much.

I work in South Louisiana. We also are about 50/50. same with male nurses and female nurses about 50/50.

I had a hard time finding areas that had any sort of black population. we were considering everman or cedar at one point but their school reprts were not that great. I have gotten used to living in a predominately white/hispanic area. that doesn't bother me as long as there is somone nearby that can do my hair I am fine. I'm black and my husband is white and we nor our kids have had any trouble. Most of the kids at their school are white/hispanic or mixed anyway. so this shouldn't be too much of a shock. More of the same. I miss baltimore

Believe me I tried. But the hubby said no. It was way too hot and humid there. Besides he's so country. He wishes to be near lots of lakes so that he can fish all the time. I'm a city girl. Could care less about the country. Always looking for a place to buy some hair or to get a good weave. And there are places nearby for that. So I am thankful.

yeah, its very humid here. I understand what ur talking about about finding a some good hair products because its pretty scarce if u move outside a big city.
