They dont want their employees parking in the garage and taking up patients and visitor space.

Parking is free if I choose to park off site, which I do. I am shuttled in via the metro bus that runs from the parking lot, to the hospital and back. It can take an extra 5-15 minutes, but I dont care, its worth it.

I park in the garage on weekends and holidays, as its free then for all employees.

Otherwise, its 10-12$ a day for the parking garages in the med center.
<SNIP>....
I worked there over 7 years ago, back then it was $15 for off site parking. That's what Methylene and I were both referring to. I guess the new thing is NOT to charge for off-site parking. And yes, on-site parking is EXPENSIVE and landing a contract is nearly impossible.

When I still worked in the Med. Center 2 years ago, I would ride my motorcycle to work. Convenient, free and helluva less hassle.

Ah, I was thinking you meant onsite parking - my mistake!

I want a motorcycle..
An electric one.

I dont even know if there is such a thing - but I wouldnt have to pay for gas!

Interesting that they used to charge for offsite parking...doesnt seem right to me.

There are so many people who park in the garage (12$ a day), and then go buy lunch daily (7-8$/day). Thats almost 20$ a day wasted. I dont get how they do it.

Re: Houston RN pay?

Yeah! Electric motorcycles exist. A bit pricey but I can't remeber who makes it though. Aprilia makes an automatic gas motorcycle - purdy Italian made bike.

2 wheels are definitely fun!

Re: Houston RN pay?

I was in Houston for interview 2 weeks ago.

With 7 years experience in US and 6 yrs experience abroad (RN III):

SLEH (TMC) - $37.50 - (2,500 relocation assistance, with referral bonus)

St. Luke's (The Woodlands) - $33.5 -($1,500 relocation, with referral bonus)

Memorial Hermann, Memorial City - $ 33.70, (with relocation help calculated depending on the distance of your old home base, with sign-on bonus, with referral bonus - $5,500 for critical care nurses).

If you have certifications, advance degree, etc...you can apply for their career ladder.

Call their HR, they will quote you base on their salary grid. The Hermann will require you to go visit them before they quote you that's why I went there.

FYI.

Yep, O.T. paid the same -- time and a half.

Most PRN rates are around $36/hr

Although float pool rates for some facilities can fetch you rates as high as $50/hr.

Re: Houston RN pay?

PRN= per diem, as needed.

This position never carries benefits, but the pay is higher.

Hours are *never* guaranteed and you are first canceled.

p.r.n. = per required need...

If a required staffing need arises (call-ins, unfilled position, vacation time being taken, maternity leave, leaves of absence, etc.), PRN employees usually fill these empty shifts. Your shifts will be canceled once the full-time employee returns from leave, or when they hire another full-time employee to fill the shifts.
