Is this thread still alive? I have applied to the Brookhaven nursing program, and have some questions if any of you are still out there.

Yep! It is still alive! I graduated from Brookhaven last December so it is all still pretty fresh to me. Let me know if you have any questions.

I do have questions...lots of questions. Emails go out sometime between Thursday, and Monday, and I am so excited. This is my second application, and I feel really good about it.

What happens after you get accepted? When is success camp, and what do you do there? Do you have to pay a deposit before the start of classes? What other financial requirments are there prior to my financial aid kicking in about a week before the semester starts (besides shots, and physical)? What are the days and hours of clinicals? How many days a week do you do them? What are they like, and where do you do them? Who was your favorite instructor? Do you get to pick your classes as far as times etc or does everyone go at once (since there are only 40 students total)?

I have finished all pre reqs and support courses except dosage calc (it was already full at the beginning of the semester). How many days a week will I have to attend school, and clinicals since I have finished all of those classes?

Any advice, info, good stories, bad stories etc I would love to hear them. It has taken forever to get to this point, and now I feel nervous and scared all over again.

Wowzers cool peach! You really do have lots of questions! After you get accepted they get in touch with you and tell you what to do next. Success camp is usually the first week before class starts. It is three days long and is chocked full of good (an scary) info. Success Camp is basically for explaining to you about what to expect in nursing school. It is also a great time to get to know your fellow classmates. trust me you will want to get to know each other, you will be spending the next year and a half together! I don't recall if any deposits were do per se, but we did have to pay for Meds Pub (nursing education software) that was 75 bucks. We also have to have liability insurance (18 dollars) that is mandatory each semester. Scrubs are about 80 bucks and you have to have those before clinicals start (about 7 weeks in). Then of course there are the books. The food news is, you buy about 90 percent of your books in the first semester. BAd news is, it will set you back a pretty penny. Count on about a thousand bucks (alot less if you buy online).Clinical days vary, but they are always day hours and usually one (if you do 12 hour shifts) or two (if you do 8 hour shifts). Clinicals are fun, but also a little scary at first. We went to Medical Center Plano, Medical City Dallas, Baylor Plano, Baylor Irving, Baylor Dallas, etc. There are a ton more that I can't even remember! Trust me, you will have a great experience wherever you wind up. My favorite instructor would probably have to be Mrs. Routh. I am sure that you met her in death and dying. She and I just clicked emotionally and spiritually. She was the one that I had do my pinning. I love her, but some people didn't care for her. For the most part, they are all wonderful instructors that really care about producing quality nurses. There are no bitter old nursing instuctors like there are at other programs. They are all very nice people. Class days and Lab days were always picked for us. Class days were twice a week and lab was once a week (after one of your lecture days). We were allowed to request a clinical, but it was not a for sure thing that you would get your first choice. I only didn't get my first choice once, and i was glad I didn't. With som many of your pre-reqs done I would say count on 4 days at either school or clinical. It could be as much as five at first while you are learning skills to practice in the hospital, but after that it will get easier. LAst semester, you only go to class one day a week! The majority of your time is spent in the hospital doing clinicals. Well, I hope this answers some of your burning questions! Feel free to PM me or post a question anytime. Thank you so much for answering my questions. Professor Routh is one of my favorite professors. I just had an email conversation with her a few weeks ago, and look forward to working with her in the nursing program. I remember at first she kind of weirded me out, but she grew on me lol. By the middle of the semester I really enjoyed her, and felt she taught me a lot about how to deal with patients, and families.

I applied last semester with 22.something. Even though I knew it was too low I was still heartbroken when I got the rejection letter. This semester I applied with 34.63, and I am being told by those that will not be named (lol) thats pretty good. If I get my acceptance on Thursday you will probably hear me jumping, screaming, and yelling where you are.

I noticed you work in Peds, do you like it? Was it easy to get a job when you graduated, how long did it take you? What is starting pay like out there in the real world (I have loans ) lol?

My son was in Childrens medical Dallas for a week a few months ago. He fell while climbing a tree, and broke his back in four places. He is fine now you would never know anything bad ever happened to him. The staff there were really awsome. Each and everyone of them were so wonderful. It really helped me make my mind up that I want to work in peds. I had been leaning that way anyway, but it took it over the top.

Where are all the other Brookhaven grads, students, and wannabes like me? I have started several treads trying to draw them out, and your the first I have found

Yeah, Mrs. Routh is the shiznit ! Yes. I work in Peds and I absolutely positively freaking love it! I have never been somewhere where I felt so at home! It was pretty easy to get the job after graduation. I interviewed at Children's but did not get either of the positions that I wanted (a good thing). I worked for Baylor Plano as a tech for three years and it turned out the manager of Our Children's House (where I work) knew me from Plano. She offered me the job on the spot! I get paid 21.50 base but at Parkland (if you can stomach it) they make about 23-24. This is not including night/weekend diffs etc. I only had 31 points when I applied and I got in first time around! I bet you will too! I dunno where all the other grads and students are. Alot don't know about this site I would venture to guess

Any suggestions on getting into the Brookhaven program? Right now I started taking the prereqs and the core courses. A graduate of that program suggested that I complete all of them before applying. In order to get the gpa and the points. What do you guys think?

Yes, take all or most of your pre-reqs and get the HESI study guide in the bookstore. I know they have it at the off-campus one. Your HESI score is the bulk of your points.
