Question The Baylor Plan?

Hello all. I've just been hired at BUMC as a nurse tech in trauma/general surgery (YAY!), and will graduate in May of 07. I've heard of something called "the baylor plan", where you basically work the weekends, and are considered full time (benefits, etc.....) I have a friend who worked the "plan" as an RN a few years ago, and he told me it was great for school, because he was paid as if he worked his three 12's for only 2 days work. My question is--does this plan still exist, is it as my friend describes it, and is it available for a position like mine, or just for the liscenced professionals? Any help on this would........help! Thanks!

Re: The Baylor Plan?

My Clinical instructor mentioned this to me, but she was not sure if it sill existed. I was interested in this plan at Baylor in Fort Worth if it still existed, so I will be interested to see if anyone here has done that.

Re: The Baylor Plan?

I think it's called TDA (two-day alternative).

You say you just got hired by BUMC. Have you asked them? Seems like that would be the first place to get the facts.

Do yourself a favor and check your intranet site if you have one at Baylor, or stay awake and call your HR department- they're the best bets for finding out what you need to know.

Re: The Baylor Plan?

There are some facilities that still have the Baylor plan but what I have found is it is few and far and between. There is also a plan where you work 2 12 hour shifts and get paid for 32 hours. Good luck and come back to post if you have any luck..

Re: The Baylor Plan?

They used to be common and not limited to 'Baylor'. Baylor was just the first organization to adopt such a plan and it was named after that pattern.

They have fallen out of favor because they cost so much. They still exist, but my experience, they go to senior staff that have waited for years for a spot to open for them.

Where I work? We have about 1/2 dozen or so such positions grandfathered in. But, when those slots are vacated, they are not being refilled.

I work the 'Baylor Plan' at a LTC facility in southwest Fort Worth that is partly owned by Baylor. I work weekend double shifts on Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and get paid 40 hours for doing so. It is nice to have 5 days off in a row.
