Johnson City Medical Center info

I have an interview at JCMC in a few weeks. Any information on the hospital will be greatly appreciated. I currently live in Florida so my knowledge of the hospital is quite limited. Thanks in advance!

Re: Johnson City Medical Center info

What is the general moral of the nursing staff? Does it have a high turnover rate? Would you recommend your friends to apply there? I guess I just want to know if it's a nice place to work, and if not do you have any recommendations?

Thanks

Re: Johnson City Medical Center info

Well, it has been a while since I worked there, but I do work for a sister facility in the same organization, and occasionally go to inservices, etc. there. I did my clinical days for my chemo cert. at the outpt chemo clinic there and absolutely LOVED it.The people I come into contact with who either work there/have worked there give it pretty good reports. I haven't seen or heard anything bad. It is a pretty big hospital with a lot of opportunities. You know, there are only two hospital organizations in about a 100 mile radius, so whatever hospital you work at, it will be for one or the other co. Are you moving into the area? I have lived here my whole life and have workd for both companies lol.

Re: Johnson City Medical Center info

It nice to hear good feed back. We plan on moving to JC at the end of February, if all goes well with our trip in a couple weeks. We can't wait to move. The high cost of living where we live now is driving us out. Also, I don't exactly love my job here either. The ratio's are ridiculous and we've been without a permanent charge nurse for 2 months.

Do you know how accepting staff is to newcomers? It's definitely been an uphill battle with the "alpha's" at work. How welcoming is the city? I would love to hear anything you have to say about the hospital or the area.

Re: Johnson City Medical Center info

Well, I have lived here for my entire life so I am kinda prejudice to the whole area. I actually live in Kingsport though. JC does have better restaraunts
Most people are easy going and kinda laid back so you shouldn't have a problem. Remember, JC is a college town with a medical school so people are used to a diversity. If you like the mountains- when you take your trip get on interstate 81 (now i think its called 26?) towards Erwin. You will go straight thru the mountains and there is a place to pull over and check out the view-an outlook point. It is beautiful and only about 20 min or so from JC

Re: Johnson City Medical Center info

I work at the Med Center. I love it. I am graduating in May and will actually stay on my present med-surg floor and take the place of a nurse that is retiring. It depends on where you work, just like any place. I love my floor and all the people I work with, my manager rearranges schedules for her students school schedules. She told me if your not good to the students they don't come back to work for you. I'll stay as long as she'll have me.

Good luck on your interview.

Pam

Re: Johnson City Medical Center info

Pam, do you mind telling me what the going rate for a new grad is in JC? We have four hospitals in my area and all offered within a quarter of each other. I am wondering how it compares with here - here between $21 and $22 is norm. Thanks, T
