I have accepted a position at UPMC Shadyside. I was hoping maybe some of you could share some ideas on good places to live. We have to buy because we have quite a few animals. We are looking for something safe and affordable on a nurses pay. I would appreciate any info you could share. Thanks.
I agree up in the northern suberbs you can buy a home with a little bit of land for a lot cheaper than you could elsewhere. Check out the North Hills area. (closer to Shadyside property is outrageously priced, and less space for your money)
Unless the DarkSide is paying six-figure salaries to it's RNs, you may have to look outside of Allegheny County for a home with any significant amount of property surrounding it. Butler, Armstrong, Westmoreland, and Beaver would be good bets if you are looking north or east of Pittsburgh (easier access to Shadyside by various routes). My daughter lives in Shadyside, not much room there, prices are high. Lots of animals, though. Lots of people walking dogs. Lots of "land mines" too.
i moved here from OHio and i find these areas to be reasonable, MOnroeville, Penn Hills, Tarentum, New Kensington,Youngwood, Kittanning. Good Schools and nice areas.
