I would suggest you use multiple strategies to present the material. When I took Pharm 4 years ago, it was strictly lecture/Powerpoint. However, there are many animations on the internet, as well as interesting graphics.
You could also set up internet-based drills or quizzes for your students to practice with, review groups, etc.
I would also present the class of drugs (ex. beta blockers), side effects of the CLASS of drugs, and then focus on individual drugs.
There is a wonderful site called Studystack.com which lets you set up "internet flashcards". Or you could encourage your students to do the same.
