Re: Nurse Educators, Introduce Yourselves!

Welcome Karynica!
I do all but 1 of my lectures in PowerPoint- do you have any experience using it? I spent a day with a computer person (my sister!) and slowly learned about importing photos (Google images) songs, and even videos.
As you know, our students are so visually oriented in their learning, and they appreciate the graphics- makes the lectures more interesting, I hope.
I know you can get tech help from the web, but it would be better if you had someone maybe on your faculty who's good using PP and can guide you through making slides, saving photos, etc.
I'll keep following this posting. You sound like a caring and committed teacher!

Re: Nurse Educators, Introduce Yourselves!

Good day to all of the eduators , I have a MSN/ARNP and have been working in a hospital as a clinical educator fro >5 years. I love to facilitate the growth of the new nurses and encourage the veteran nurses to reach their goals.
We currently have a clinical ladder to help nurses to progress to different levels. Now, we are working toward a clinical ladder track for the nurses who are educators and those in administrative positions.
I was wondering if anyone is using a clinical ladder that has different tracks and how it is working out?
My motto in education is 99% perspiration 1% inspiration!!!!!

Hello Everyone,
I am so glad to have stumbled onto this site. I am completing a MSN/ED program in 28 days!!! I am quite nervous about entering the field of education. This seems to be a very resourceful site!!!! I am finishing a paper on clinical assessment instruments and this site has proven to be a great resource. I am looking forward to learning more from you more seasoned educators within this site

Re: Nurse Educators, Introduce Yourselves!

Hi everyone
I have been a nurse for 25 years in many areas... ICU CCU, MS etc... I have a MS in education, and am a CNS-C. i am just completing my 1st year as an assistant clinical professor.

My question is .... when in the clinical setting does the instructor have to co-sign all nurses notes of the students. I have done this but did not know if it was just one of those things that always has been done and no one ever questioned why. I have been cosigning everything but this takes a lot of time that i could be spending with my student....
It makes total sense to cosign for high risk things like meds, IV's, assessments, etc but am having a hard time with co-signing for bed baths, etc....

I have asked and have received varing opinions. i have asked legal and looked on the Mass. nursing board web site and have found no concrete answer.
any guidance where this is documented from a legal perspective i would greatly appreciate it. Linda J

Re: Nurse Educators, Introduce Yourselves!

Hello Linda J,
I have never co-signed with my student nurses. The nurse the student is working with takes care of that since the patient is their responsibillity. I hope this helps.
Good old nurse

Re: Nurse Educators, Introduce Yourselves!

Hello all. I have just completed my second year as full time assistant professor of nursing. Whew! Better than the first. Although I have visited this forum for solace and camaraderie - which I always got - I am now officially introducing myself. MS prepared, by accident. I just wanted to be able to specialize in WOC nursing and looking for a BSN wound up in an accelerated Master's Program. Did the webWOC program and then wound up teaching. Thanks for being here. I have 14 years of experience - mostly in home care. This made me nervous with the clinical portion of my job. I have found that the clinical piece is my favorite. I work with an incredibly supportive faculty and administration. I am loving this career choice.

Re: Nurse Educators, Introduce Yourselves!

My name is Barb. I completed my MSN with specialization in healthcare and nursing education last November through the University of Phoenix. I will be starting as an adjunct clinical instructor, teaching fundamentals with the freshmen, with a local community college in September. I am looking forward to moving forward on this newest journey in my nursing career.
My specialty area is psychiatric nursing, which I will be teaching in the spring. Just skimming this forum, it looks like it will be a good resource and place to ask questions.
