Does anyone teach health science technology?

I have applied for a few school nurse positions in my area and actually got an email from a guy asking me if I wanted to interview for a teaching position. They need an RN to teach the high school students health science technology class, which high school students can take to become a certified nurse's aid. I don't know a whole lot about teaching this subject....does anyone else teach this class or know anyone who does? I would just like to know what it is like a little more before I interview for the position. Thanks

Re: Does anyone teach health science technology?

The only experience I have with this is that I took a class similar to this as a high school student. We were not certified nurse's aids on completion, but we did a lot of prep things that were helpful. We did things like medical terminology. I remember the classroom having a hospital bed and things like that. We did a day of clinical (observation only) at a local nursing home at the end of the semester. Surely there is curriculum required by the state that would outline what you would need to teach. Sounds like something to look into...SUMMERS OFF!!!

I taught healthscience technology for four years in a local high school. Being a teacher is hard work but it is very rewarding. The hardest part really is classroom management. When you teach, the first year you need to get into a district that offers a mentoring progra, or else you may be overwhelmed with lesson plans, discipline and just the day to day business of teaching.
I taught HST and clinical rotations(where the students go into the hospitals and observe) & Medical terminology. If you have a sense of humor and like teens, I'd say go for it. You'll never know until you try! Good luck!
