Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

Do you believe the DNP will serve as an alternative to the PhD for those practicing in Academia. Furthermore, is anyone enrolled in or thinking about earning the DNP degree?

Re: Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

I'm thinking about it but getting in is another story. DNP programs in my area are sparse and competitive. I'm keeping my options open for now...

Re: Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

Have you considered an online DNP program? There are a few under development. I know Rocky Mountain University has a DNP, but they are in the process of regional accreditation (http://www.rmuohp.edu/) they also offer a Doctorate of Science in Nursing. Furthermore, the university of Arizona offers a PhD in nursing and a DNP through distance education. Good luck in your search

Re: Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

I, too am anxious to get into a DNP program. It is my understanding that some of the programs will be organized for MSN candidates and it will not be necessary to obtain a NP prior to admission. Has anyone heard of programs that include the NP as a part of the curriculum of the DNP tract?

Mymimi: Yes, there are several programs that include the advanced practice curriculum as part the DNP program. Follow this link to a few DNP programs. Hope this help you. http://www.allnursingschools.com/fea...tice-programs/

Furthermore, look at the AACN's site, they have a list of all programs under development.
