Smile Re: Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

I am currently in a DNP program. It is very intense and does offer extra courses for MSN's who want to be certified as NP's. You do not have to be an NP to get in (I'm not). Please feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to answer.

Thanks. Good to know new resources. This is not completely distance learning, though, as there are a few weeks of short residency that you would need to be able to pull off. Also, note that there are eligibility requirements, so this is not suitable for anyone. I quote from their website: "An applicant to the transitional Doctor of Nursing Practice program must be an Advanced Practice Nurse functioning in the role of Nurse Practitioner, Certified Nurse Anesthetist, Certified Nurse Midwife, or Clinical Nurse Specialist. All applicants must possess a master's degree. Nurses with an master's degree who did not graduate from one of these programs are not eligible for this program."

To Mymimi: I don't know where you are located in the south but the University of Florida just launched its DNP program. This year they only took those with a masters (no specific specialty needed) and next year they will look at accepting those with only BSNs.

Here is an excellent AACN link to DNP programs... http://www.aacn.nche.edu/DNP/DNPProgramList.htm

Looks like the University of Kentucky's DNP program offers 2 tracks: clinical leadership and executive leadership practice. Their program (full or part-time) is web-based and require in-class attendance once/month. Also, the University of Maryland's program is online as well.

I'm seriously thinking about applying to DNP programs, but at this time, my main objective is to complete my current graduate program. I'm almost to the finish line.

Furthermore, look at the AACN's site, they have a list of all programs under development.

Camillan, my apologies. I included a link you have already shared with us. I think this blunder is a signal for me to get some shut-eye.
