Re: North Carolina Roll Call

Hi all!
I'm a new grad nurse in Cary, NC, working on a cardiovascular telemetry floor. I'm orginally from NY/CT, but have been down here 11+ years. I'm hearing a lot of questions about pay, differentials, so I am including a "cheat sheet" I did when comparing different hospitals in the area, when I was job hunting. I'll add my disclaimer here; this was based on salaries/differentials at the time of my graduation in May, and may be subject to change at any moment! Hope it helps!
UNCBase salary $ 19.75 Weekday nights: after 3 pm $ 3.75 Weekend days $ 10.00 Weekend nights: after 3pm $ 13.75 WakeMed
New Grad FellowBase salary $ 19.64 Weekday evenings:

I am recent grad with my LPN planning to continue to my RN. I live in Pitt county and have for most of my life. I have raised three children, one whom is serving her country in Iraq and the other two in college themselves. It was hard going back to school after all these years but so far so good. I have not been able to acquire a job like I wanted yet but still working on it. Just have not found the job the Lords wants me to have yet.

Julinoe, thanks for that cheat sheet...I plan on moving to the Raleigh area next year and that was a big help. My daughter lives there and gave birth to my 1st grandchild this summer. The wages are much less than where I live in GA., but I really love the area and want to be near my daughter.

Hi, all, this is a great nursing site, I feel like I already know lots of you. I am looking forward to moving to NC next year.
Lewis39, My last name is also Lewis. I would love to hear how you like Duke, that is one of the hospitals I am considering, also Rex. I am just concerned the pay looks pretty low. Looks like I will be doing weekend nights for a lot longer, it has been 10 years so far.....

New member from Denver NC, just outside of Charlotte.
I am a working mother of 2 daughters. Married for 8 years. My husband is a career firefighter in our little town.
I worked as a CNA during 2004. I stopped working in July 04 to care for my two children at home. I (stupidly) let my CNA expire. I just recently found a "Assisted Living Center" to work as a Caregiver but using my CNA skills. It's more of a Nursing home.
I enjoy working and helping the residents of the facitly but I can already tell that I'm going to get worn out quickly on it. There is a lot of turn-over at this facilty. I've been there 5 weeks now and 4 people have quit. Last night I took my first punch, luckily on the back, I just happend to turn in just enough time to avoid being hit in the face.
I've joined here to help motivate me to go back to school. I don't need much, just some extra support.
Sorry for making my into so long.

hello there all,
I am 39 yrs young , mother of two, graduated in July from LPN Program , licensed in August getting ready to start my first job as a nurse next week.
Have been working in various positions in an Agency that serves Individuals with Autism. Have been working in Assisted Living w/ ADults that have Alzheimer's and Dementia as a PRN Med Tech.
To CNAfromNC; You can do it. Took me a long time to get my LPN, and in the end my soon to be thirteen year old daughter was the one that encouraged me and reminded me to never give up your dreams , even if you have to take the scenic route.( If You want your RN but cannot commit two years possibly w/o work , get your LPN then return and get your RN while making LPN $$). I am sure we can offer You the needed support to keep You going.

Thank you again!
