North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON)

Legally constituted body (state agency) which regulates the practice of registered nurses (RN) and licensed practical nurses (LPN) within North Carolina. RN and LPN members of the Board of Nursing are elected by nurses in the state

North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA)

Description:
Professional membership association composed of registered nurses (RN); a state association of the American Nurses Association (ANA)

The purpose of the North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA) is to serve the changing needs of its members, address nursing issues and advocate for the health and well-being of all people.

North Carolina Association of Nursing Students (NCANS)

Description:
Mentors the professional development of future nurses and facilitates their entrance into the profession by providing educational resources, leadership opportunities, and career guidance.

North Carolina Center for Nursing (NCCN)

Description:
State agency created to address the issues of supply and demand for nursing including issues of recruitment, retention and utilization of nurse resources
Created by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1991
First state funded nursing work force center in the country

Mission Statement:
The mission of the North Carolina Center for Nursing is to insure that the State of North Carolina has the nursing resources necessary to meet the health care needs of its citizens.

North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Program

Description:
The North Carolina AHEC Program, established in 1972, is a link between the academic health science centers in the state and the communities of North Carolina. This partnership results in high quality, accessible education programs for health science students and health professionals in all 100 counties.

Nine AHECs help serve the health workforce needs of the people of North Carolina. These are: Area L AHEC (Rocky Mount), Charlotte AHEC, Coastal AHEC (Wilmington), Eastern AHEC (Greenville) , Southern Regional AHEC (Fayetteville) AHEC, Greensboro AHEC, Mountain AHEC (Asheville), Northwest AHEC (Winston-Salem), and Wake AHEC (Raleigh). The NC AHEC Program is associated with four University Academic Health Science Centers, and is administered by a program office at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.
