Does anyone know of any good places to work if you are an OB nurse. I am looking for hospitals, clinics, etc.

I plan to relocate to Brooklyn or Queens.

Also, can anyone give me some neighborhoods that would be great to live in either in Brooklyn or Queens.

Going to NYC this weekend to check things out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, what about salaries for OB nurses with 3 year experience, Asthma educator, BSN.

Salary should be minimum 65,000. I don't know what every hospital offers, so that should be a minimum of what's out there.

There are many neighborhood's that are really nice in Brooklyn. Bay Ridge, I don't know the name of the area, but it's right near the Brooklyn Bridge. That's a real nice area as well with GREAT views of the city if you walk to the park, or get lucky with a view from home.

Maimonides is good. If you live in Bk and get a place near public transportation, you can travel into the city where there are some very good hospitals.

I think Conrad is talking about Dumbo, or possibly Brooklyn Heights. I live in BH, and it's wonderful, although very expensive. The neighborhoods that are "established" and nice are the aforementioned two plus Park Slope. All are expensive. Williamsburg, Ft Greene, and Greenpoint are still in the process of gentrifying somewhat, but many young professionals live there and I gather the rents are slightly more reasonable. I've heard good things about Bay Ridge too, but it's very far out in Brooklyn and you probably would want a car.

The OB units I'm familiar with are both in Manhattan - New York Presbyterian Cornell, which is on the west side, is where I did my OB clinicals. It was gorgeous, but with very high epidural and C/S rates, and a certain sense of . . . entitlement? I guess? The pt pop tends to be primarily upper-class there. New York Presbyterian Columbia is on the east side, way uptown, and that's where I work, in the NICU. Both have great L&D with some cool high-risk stuff. If you want to stay in the boroughs, Long Island Jewish does good work. Keep in mind that I tend to judge L&D by the NICU - if the NICU is a level III, then there is generally high-risk antepartum work going on there, which is interesting to me, but may not be to everyone else.

Bay Ridge/Bensonhurst is very nice. There is access to trains and buses also if you dont have a car.

Oops, I think you got it backwards...Columbia is on the West Side of Manhattan and Cornell is on the East Side.

I went to NYC this past weekend. Caught the train to Bayridge, and I really like the area!!! Clinton Hill, Fort Greene, Park Slope-not so much. My friends live in Clinton Hill and were really pushing it, but I was not feeling it. Thanks for the salary information.

Also, do both of those hospitals have Antepartum Units?

Do you guys know of any community health type roles that may be good areas to pursue in Brooklyn. Also, do you know anyone who works for any insurance companies in NYC?
