There is a class at NYU in early January. It's from 9AM to 3PM or so but they will let you out at about 1. You don't really learn anything and there's no test. I took it there. So don't fret.

A little about myself.. double Interdisciplinary and English undergrad majors from Berkeley with a 3.8gpa, did some volunteer work at a hospital while an undergrad, Returned Peace Corps education volunteer, have been working in the health care field as an anesthesia tech for a little over half a year, and am finished with my prereqs (finally ) this term.

Getting those prereqs finished was quite the chore. I took nutrition and stats as an undergrad but I took the rest of my prereqs when and where I could when I got back from the Peace Corps at SF State, Berkeley extension, LSU online, University of Phoenix online. As you can see, this is going to make for a lot of transcript requests. If you need to get dev psy done, LSU has a self-paced class that's not bad and if you need stuff done really fast UOP has an easy 5 week micro and other classes (for a price).

Good luck with your prereqs and apps next year. It's tough but just keep at it and you'll be just fine.

Honestly, I think all NYU really cares about is your gpa. At this point it isn't really competitive enough to look at your extracurriculars that much. As long as you surpass everyone else with your gpa, you'll get in. Even during the seminars I had at NYU, they keep bragging about how their GPA and test scores are going up, etc. NYU is really corporate...

As for prereqs or not, I think they would prefer you not to have them, so you would have to take them at NYU and pay them another semester's tuition. It's about luck too, because they can have an opening for prereq classes OR they could have one for 15 month starting.

And I guess I will see you in class next term, suzie hull?

Btw, not to count my chickens before they hatch, but long how do you have to reply whether you would be attending or not? When is the first day of classes? What kinds of things do you need to get done before the first day? I saw shots, BCLS (?), etc. mentioned. The reason I ask is that I work full time and I don't want to give notice if I don't get in. But if I do have to give notice, I'd prefer to give a month. The decision is so late I don't know if that's possible anymore. It also makes me feel like I'm in a "maybe" pile somewhere, waiting for people to not attend so I can move up the list. Not a good feeling but if it gets me in, then so be it.

Well, if you're gpa is "high" then you'll get in, I think. If it's rather low, things are bleak. As for shots and BCLS. NYU has a bcls course taht you can take if you get in. Shots are due Dec 15th officially but I"m sure you can hand them in later. Don't panic.

Although I am sure that NYU would like me to take another semester there, I don't think my pockets can really afford it! So I will be trying to complete the prereqs in advance. I think I will also do some extracurricular volunteering, if only to prove to myself that this is the right field for me.

I am attending NYU right now, just finishing up my very first semester and don't really have time to "waste" , projects and finals are looming, but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in:

To be hosest, my first degree's GPA wasn't all thet great,
and I believe I got in because of all the other things; a "killer" honest essay, an honest explaination of why my GPA wasn't that great "back in the day" -- so they do not only look at your GPA! They actually take the time to read all those essays and statements that we all worked so hard on! (not to say that they aren't a little disorganized at times...., make sure you app. is in and complete)
There are alot of really smart people with a wide range of experience, or lack there of, in the program, and I am doing really great, so GPA isn't everything, and they know that!!!

I had all my prereq's done before I started. ( I did do well in the prereq's though..) When I was accepted this spring I had physiology in progress and hadn't taken nutrition yet. I thought that I would take it at NYU, including any other credits they wouldn't accept. However, they accepted all my credits (even the ones that were a little past due the 10 year mark..) and even suggested that I get the nutrition course done over the summer somewhere, so I could start with the clinical courses directly in the fall--so they are not that coorporate that they only want another semester of money out of you (at least not the actual people at the school of nursing)!! SO go ahead and get them done before hand. I am glad I did, because that tuition really stings....

-you'll get info on the BCLS (basic cardiac life support) when you're accepted. I did that course the week right before classes started at NYU (="free")
-you have to buy scrubs at the bookstore (run big), but a nursing kit is included in your tuition/student fee. You actually get a really good stethoscope and cuff, sissors, etc, in a great messenger bag ,so don't buy that stuff.
-immunizations: get them done as soon as possible and get them in to the school, for your own peace of mind, but don't drive yourself crazy. Have copies of everyting and be organized about it, and bring them with you to orientation as well, just in case. Did I mention they can be a little disorganized at times??... As long as you're on top of your own stuff you will be fine.
I could go on forever, but I need to get back to the books big time...

GPA is relative though. My friend had <3.0 and she did NOT get in and she had fabulous extracurric. Truthfully, if you have a killer GPA you're in. If you don't, you're on the 'maybe, not so sure, depends on the other apps" side.

Anyway, were you at the seminar today? It seemed like it would never end! And how is fundamentals? I'm starting the 15 month next term. I'm male and have no idea what size scrubs to buy. NYU doesn't really tell you anything. I still have no idea where the clinical sites are. Half the work benches in room 202 in the nursing building have defective stethoscopes or teh benches themselves don't work. I'm paying 36k for this? And the classes actually get full. Seriously, I was locked out of Nutrtion for like 3-4 days and when I went to complain they basically said tough luck but I got it anyway. 36k for this! Worse than a SUNY.

Yeah, and I will never be happy with NYU, even if it isn't *that bad. Just like that lady who did the lecture said that all people complain about their jobs, I complian about NYU

Hey NYBSNHopeful, Don't give up yet! I think lots of people are still waiting for their letters. I didn't receive mine yet, either. But, when I attended an information session awhile ago, they said that they send most notifications in early December. No news is good news...though I have to say I'm super anxious to hear, too!!! It should be any day...

I just signed up for this today so not sure if my messages are posting so there's probably already one up from me but I'm trying again anyway - so I too am starting at NYU in january and have been going crazy getting everything in order but still awaiting that financial aid package - anyone else stressing about this debt? I'm from CT and am finishing my first degree this semester in Legal Studies - law what was i thinking - and would love to hear from anyone else starting in January with questions, concerns, where's everyone living? Hope to hear from you.
