Flexible self-scheduling? Bonuses? MTA discounts? Paid time off? 403Bs?

I don't know about the MTA discounts but from what I've seen, many NY hospitals have great benefits in terms of paid time off, 401K/403B's, educational reimbursements, health benefits, etc. I remember the NYC Hospital system (don't know if this is the actual name) having excellent benefits and they'll train you for the area of nursing you want.

Good luck!

Hello All,

I am currently employed at a hospital in the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) and from the information I've received I can say the benefits look really good (medical, education, retirement, etc). The hospital I work at is represented by the NYSNA union, as are many in the city, and they have great benefits as well. I think this is the corporation you were referring to decartes.

YES! How is the working environment in your area of specialty and others (medsurg, icu, or, er)?

Thanks!

I really wish other hospital websites would show this nursing info; it really saves time and research!!!!!!!!!! I have to do it the hard way with other hospitals by going in person for this stuff!!!!!

What are the benefits of other hospitals? Is there a hospital that has the most vacation time? What does Columbia Presbyterian have to offer nurses?

I just completed the nursing department's orientation at my hospital and will start orienting to my unit, Labor and Delivery, on Tuesday. However, the overall atmosphere is friendly and warm. People will say good morning to you in the elevators and as you walk up and down the corridors. The people I've encountered in a few dapartments are pleasant and they seem to be happy to work there. Granted you have a few sour apples in all places, but for the most part I have no complaints.

I am orienting with nurses from Pediatrics, Med/Surg, Surgery, and a clinic and the ADN's from those departments are enthusiastic about the new nurses. They are willing to answer questions and to share some of their own experiences as well. Some will be honest that not all is perfect, but they offer advise on how to get past the harder times we will encounter.

I know some will say that I am seeing things through rose colored glasses because I am still new there, but based on my conversation with many people that I have met in the last 2 weeks, the hospital I work at is a place where many nurses start and end their careers. To me, that says a lot.

If you have any specific questions, send me a PM and we can discuss.

Thanks!

MICU nurse with one year exp trying to get into NYP, I think that I will learn a lot there, but I would like to know if they provide orientation if i want to go to surgical unit or CCU, I am interested in a great orientation, cause my hospital, at the MICU, was about drips, and very old people with hemodinamics impossible to fix, i learned a lot about it, but, I need experience with CVVH and other cardiac devices!

I will appreciate your help.

Thanks
