nursing anesthesia at Columbia University

Can anyone tell me the cost of nursing anesthesia at Columbia? Its not reallly clear from their website. I multiplied the # of credits * the hourly rate and got $58000. (58 credits * 1000 dollars per credit). It was mentioned in a previous thread this is an expensive University, but my numbers don't show that. Drexel, Penn, etc in Philly are $65-$90K for the program too.

Second, what is the starting salary for CRNA's in New York City? Is it higher than other states due to the cost of living, or is the fact it is a high salary already compensate for the cost of living? In other words, why work in New York City as a CRNA making $100K a year to start when you can make the same salary in a lower cost city?

Last, how many students do they admit per year? I read that they recruit internally for candidates and then leave so many spaces to outside nurses and thus is very competitive.

Thanks for your feedback.

There is a very imformative thread about this somewhere in this NY nurses forum you should look for it, it helped me out. I am also looking into Columbia as a possibility. Plan on spending $100,000 + for the program which is about 28 months in length. It may be less depending on how much scholarships you receive and if that would cover part of books and tuition...ect. I'm not sure how that calculates per credit but it's costly period!! It's a CHALLENGING program from what I hear...and getting in depends on several factors, they do leave so many spaces for outside nurses I think it's equally divided between them and ETP nurses. This thread said they leave about 10 spaces for both...but I know someone from Columbia in the program now and it seems like they accept more like 20-30 but I may be wrong. But, yes it is competitive. Besides that, I'm not sure what criteria is used to accept students they have some sort of formula but what that is I'm not too sure....hope it helps.
