Re: Looking for LPN Schools in NY

Yes, I am going to the Southern Westchester BOCES site. I am going in the evening, I work during the day at a doctors office. I'm a medical assistant and I also hold a NYS CNA certification. But, yeah good for you. Will you be pursuing an RN degree later down the road?
Oh, I was also curious what is the interview process like....what kinds of questions were asked....that sort of thing?
Anyway, I'll talk with you soon. Don't get nervous you'll do fine.....you'll do GREAT. Have a posivtive attitude.

Not a problem. Glad you registered for the the LPN prep. Are you going to the BOCES Westchester site? I know what u mean about being out of school. It was rough at first. But study every nite, even if it is two hours. Orientation is coming soon....i'm nervous, excited, scared that my brain is getting old (LOL). But I'm gonna keep on praying and staying positive! I'll keep you posted of my adventures. Are you going during the day? Let me know. If I can help...give me an email holla!

Take care....

Re: Looking for LPN Schools in NY

Hi Im new to this forum. Interested in going to Lauguardia for the nursing program. Not sure which track LPN or RN. How long was the waiting list for you? I'm sure it is more now? Did you like the school? It is very close to me, and I work two days a week. Do you think it is possible to stay working two days a week? Also, is the LPN program accredited? And does it save you time when you enter the RN program? I may be moving in the next 2 years so I thought that doing the LPN would be safer, at least if anything happens I can still work. I really want to do the RN program, but not sure how these credits transfer

Re: Looking for LPN Schools in NY

I'm not sure about the Lauguardia or how long the waiting list is. There are a few people in my group that are doing the LPN and will continue for the RN program after they work a while. Since LPN is not accredited, so you might might want to looking into if Laguardia is or not. Some school or RN program will take your LPN license & work experiences and will accept you into their program for RN so that way you don't have to repeat some of the classes. But you must maintane 85 average in all your classes plus pass their test in order to get in for the RN program.
I'm working only on the weekend & sometime find it hard to find more time to study. You really have to be committed to do this to make it work. I'm in class Monday - Wed. 8:30am - 2:30pm & on Thurs. & Friday in hospital or nursing home from 8am-2pm.
I find it mentally draining when I get home from school that I can't even keep my eye open to read. Tests are given just about every other week back to back.
Some school offer night program for LPN but it takes 2yrs to finish & some have a long waiting list like BCC. You have to pass there test.
I won't want to discourage you, just ask around & find out which will work for you.
Good luck

Hi there! I saw that you got accepted to LaGuardia Nursing program 2 years ago. I am considering going to LaGuardia's Nursing program and would like personal thoughts on the school. How did it go. What did you think of the program? Were you accepted quickly? Was it hard? What was easy about it? Do graduates of the school get hired quickly?

I hope to hear from you. I don't know if you are still on this board after two years!

Re: Looking for LPN Schools in NY

Hi,
I live in Westchester NY. I went to Westchester Community College. They have an awesome LPN program. Although I am an RN, several people I know went to the LPN program. It's not too expensive, but you need to take an entrance exam. Any community college would probably be good, if WCC is not convenient.
Hope that helps. Carleah

Re: Looking for LPN Schools in NY

Right now there are 12 LPN schools in NY. Check out the website listing them all at office of the professions ny education department. There is the NYC Department of ed. they've already tested and selected for this year and reopen admission at the end of the year. Likewise for most of the other schools. Check the website I mentioned and call the schools to find out when applications are due. there are the Cuny programs- there may be time to apply to them for September and there is always NJ. Some schools there start quarterly. Check out Lincoln Tech and Merit Tech. Lots of pople go from NYC to these schools in jersey if they can work out the travel.Best of luck!
