Exclamation UMDNJ Accelerated BSN Program

Hi everyone! Is there anyone who can provide information on the accelerated BSN program at UMDNJ? I would like to know how durable is the program- the good, the bad and the ugly. What GPA is required for admission and how soon does one have to apply? Thanks- any info would be appreciated

Re: UMDNJ Accelerated BSN Program

I recently applied. Here's what I know so far because my friend started in January. You can apply 3 times out of the year: Spring, Summer, & Fall. They offer a BSN/MSN program, my friend claims he'll be finished with the BSN portion in three months.
A good source of info is their website--loaded with tons of information. I dont know how competive their program is but you def need a 3.0 gpa in your pre-reqs.

Re: UMDNJ Accelerated BSN Program

The program IS competetive (>500 applications for about 50 seats). The program is not too well organized. I'd like to believe it's like that by design in order to prepare you for all the crap that's out there in the real world - teaches you flexibility. Check the website and attend a Q&A session for better info.

Re: UMDNJ Accelerated BSN Program

I just applied for this Fall for the Accelerated Second Degree BSN program and I've read on the forums that they already did interviews on the 7th and 14th, but I may have been confused and those interviews were for the CRNA?

Help...UMDNJ was the one I really wanted

Re: UMDNJ Accelerated BSN Program

I just started there in January 2007 on the BSN/MSN and will be done by May 2008 with the BSN part which is full time. I have classes/clinicals 4 days a week with most of the days going from 8 am to 4 pm. While on the BSN part 3 MSN courses are included so that if you do decide to sta on or go back to UMDNJ for your MSN, you would not have to do them. The MSN, depending on your area of specialty can be started after your BSN either ft or pt, except in the case of Acute/Critical Care and CRNA where you need at least 2 years ICU experience

The program is very doable but, you are going to have to put a lot of things on the backburner while you are in it as there is a lot of work to cover in 15 months. In my 1/07 class we are approximately 65.

Go to the link http://sn.umdnj.edu/academics/accelmsn/index.htm
a lot of the questions you have can be answered there and should be up to date. The Gpa required is at least a 3.0 from your prior degree. You also have to complete all the pre-reqs with a minimum gpa of 2.75

I know they had a couple of information sessions recently but interviews for the accelerated program is not something I believe they do.

If you have more specific question let me know.

Re: UMDNJ Accelerated BSN Program

I got accepted into UMDNJ and my gpa was a 3.2 from my first degree. However, I chose not to go there because they are having serious "legal" issues and instead I came to rutgers accelerated program. Much cheaper, and a very good program as well!

What kind of "legal" issues? I haven't heard and it's pretty much my #1 choice. But Rutgers would be good for me too.

Re: UMDNJ Accelerated BSN Program

I am graduating UMDNJ's program for RN_BSN in a few weeks. Most of the instructors are A+++ and you will learn a ton. You can just google, UMDNJ, they have been in the news lately. It does not have specifically anything to do in the School of nursing. If you are worrried about how solvent the program is, need not worry. They are 1 of the few, so they are well equipted. They have excellent combination of online classes and clinicals. The folks at the Stratford Library are amazing too. Just do a cost comparison and a location comparison. Best of luck!

Re: UMDNJ Accelerated BSN Program

I'm in my third semester right now, so i'll be finishing up this August. So far I think it's a great program, but the workload is heavy and you don't have much time to procrastinate. Most of the teachers i've had are great, but you'll always find a few that you may not like. The legal issues don't effect the school of nursing directly, so i wouldn't let that drive you away from the school. if you have any specific questions, just ask and i'll be glad to help!!

Major cutbacks, this affects everyone, including all the schools and personnel. i believe that UMDNJ is still under investigation...
