Talking Salem Community College Nursing Program!

The smallest school from the smallest county in all of NJ is now represented on allnurses, thank you, thank you...

As we go into our next semester at SCC
(23 mandatory credit hours! AAAaaagghhhh!) I hope many of you will find your way to this forum and post your comments about what you think of the classes, the new clinicals, the world in general... I recommend making screen names that won't give away your identity, so you can be more frank, I know I will be.

I hope to see EVERYONE next semester! Go SCC RN class of 09!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Salem Community College Nursing Program!

By the way... FYI, half of an LPN,is qualified to take the state NA exam without the special skills test!

This is for those of my classmates who have not ALREADY been CNA's for the last 20 years, of course...

I'm not going to hard-sell the idea, but for the record, it's what I'm planning on doing to brush up on my patient care skills..

Re: Salem Community College Nursing Program!

OK fast forward half a year!

80 students, 29 were able to pass the exit exam!

Drama! Thrills! Chills! Spills! Did I mention Drama!

I'm taking my ball and going to Philly! I've had enough of this school and the monkey business that goes on behind closed and not-so-closed doors!

For professional reasons, I'll leave it at that!

Re: Salem Community College Nursing Program!

I am a new LPN grad and was considering attending Salem County College. Can anyone tell me what exit exams are required to graduate. Is it the HESI test?

Yikes! I guess that's how they maintain their great NCLEX pass rate -- they don't let anyone out in order to take it!!! I'm sorry about this for you; come join us in Philly!

Re: Salem Community College Nursing Program!

Yes, Salem Community College requires the HESI exit exam to graduate.

Be warned, the exam itself is tied to other courses, meaning if you cannot pass the HESI exam, your grade in another class will be transmuted into a very heavily weighted "F". (The class it was tied to for the LPN Class was a 10-credit hour one). With that "F", not only do you have to repeat ALL the classes of spring semester (23 hours worth) but to even get into the program again, you must re-take all your 1st semester finals and take your place last in line for consideration on admission back into the program. With the "F" on your transcripts, you won't be able to just transfer into a program at a different school, either.

Last but not least let it be known: About half the class statistically can pass the HESI. Not just the top half of the class, there were many students with better GPA's than me, who missed by just a few points and now have nothing to show for their last year in school. A few students who were at the very bottom of the class grade-wise passed the HESI. It is not a reflection of academic aptitude.

Good luck!

Think of it as a massive horse race... where the horses that do not place, get a leg broken for their trouble.

Thanks for the warning. Do you know of any ADN programs in the area who do not require the HESI test to graduate?
