Working Conditions at MUSC in Charleston, SC

Hi all. I suppose I should first introduce myself. I've been a CRNA for about 2 years now, and I couldn't be happier with my choice to enter this very special profession. I work in a very busy, high turnover, private practice and care for all patient populations save transplant. Also, we are a clinical facility for the near by university, so I get my teaching fix as a clinical instructor.

My family is contemplating a move to Charleston, SC. We vacation there almost yearly and way back when my wife and I were working on our undergraduate degrees, we always promised ourselves that we'd soon move to Charleston. Well...that day still hasn't come and we're toying around with taking the plunge now.

I'm thinking I might like to test the waters in an academic hospital, so I'd like to consult the collective wisdom of this board about MUSC.

I have all the benefits info, so basically I want the skinny on the working conditions at MUSC, such as, but not limited to:

- CRNA practice in general

- CRNA/Anesthesiologist interactions

- Caseload - do the residents take the highest priority for the biggest cases?

- Cohesiveness between CRNAs, MDAs, Surgeons, Residents, ect

- Ability to perform invasive lines and regional

- Schedule

- Ability for OT

- Ability to teach students

I understand that some information is better left far from bbs such as this, so please feel free to pm me if you feel uncomfortable posting.

Thanks so much!
