trouble finding a job in ICU in CT

I will graduate in May '07 with my bachelors in nursing at the University of Oklahoma. My parents recently moved to CT (near Newtown) and I have been calling around to local hospitals to ask about job availability in ICU... Needless to say it's been a little discouraging. I have been calling hospitals and asking for the nurse recruiters, but several hospitals said they don't even hire recent nursing grads for ICU. Different people have been telling me it's not what you know but who you know. I really want to be able to apply to CRNA school asap, so I know how vital getting a job in ICU is... Any advice any one might have would be great!
Thanks in advance

Do you have to move in with your parents or are you free to move about the country? There are plenty of ICU jobs available if you're willing to move. Good luck

I would prefer to move in with them once I graduate to save money, so that's why I'm pushing so hard to find a job here.

Re: trouble finding a job in ICU in CT

Living in Newtown i would look first at Bridgeport and Norwalk Hospitals. Both these if memory serves correctly are associated with CRNA programs. Danbury would be my next choice. St Raephels in New Haven and Yale would also be possibilities. Though in the larger institutions I just named may be difficult for new grads to go directly into ICU. Some of the smaller hospitals (relatively speaking) you might have more luck, namely ST Mary's in Waterbury and Waterbury hospital as well as New Milford hospital are all within reasonable commuting didtance from Newtown. Asking about openings for next year, well a lot can happen in a year so what they say now may change.
Good luck in your senior year. There is a bit of a cultural difference between Oklahoma and CT.
