Yes, Loisane, it still happens, whenever I have students around. As Dylan said, We all got to serve somebody.......

Or, was it the guy from Silence of the Lambs .... ?

What a shame things have reversed. My current clinical site doesn't have students. But you can bet that if I get a chance in the future, I'll do what I can to reverse this trend and restore the "good old days". Maybe some of you soon-to-be CRNAs will consider doing the same.

Re: SRNA clinical tactics

I have to agree with Loisane, et al. As students, the CRNAs looked after us in a collegial sort of way. They goosed the various sales reps into bringing lunch or sponsoring an occasional happy hour. I've tried to follow that model over the past 20 years. I also agree that there is a fine line between being a cordial student and a suckup. Everyone likes the first, but distances themselves from the latter. After all, someone once said that the difference between brown-nosing and butt kissing is poor depth perception.

Re: SRNA clinical tactics

I start CRNA school this coming January, I hope that my attitude, professionalism, and knowledge will be enough to make the clinician that I am placed with eager to teach. If there is any butt kissing to be done, it will not be done by me! On occassion bringing donuts or something like that to clinicals for everyone is OK. If it is expected or alluded to that this is an expectation, there will be some very emaciated people in the OR. When I used to precept new nursing students in the ICU, I would go out of my way to make their experience great. I hope that my experience in CRNA school clinicals would be the same. I will keep my fingers crossed.....

Good Luck to all SRNA (myself included)
