Shadowing, How to?

Can anyone help me with this? I would like to follow a CRNA around for a day or so to determine what they do and if I want to do it. I am very new to this and have no idea how to approach this. Do I contact the hospital dept. or find new grads or what?

Also, can anyone tell me how they really decided on CRNA as a career choice? Did it appeal due to the income potential or helping patients with pain management or what? I think I might like it but I can't identify exactly what it is that draws me to it.

I am drawn to the medical field due to many reasons, mostly my father's death about 5 years ago. It was very traumatic and I shifted my interests to medical. Being a little older (36) and wanting to finish my undergraduate degreel, I want to work in a fast paced, exciting area. Also, I want to really make a difference to people in some small way while I do this? Am I completely nuts with this????

First, are you currently a nurse? It does not sound like you are from your post. As such, you might have a hard time gaining access to the OR.

But you should at the very least, find a hospital in your area that uses CRNA's and then speak to the director of them. tell them your intentions and what you would like to do. Be very honest about where youare in the process of becomming a CRNA. Ask if you can talk to a CRNA and observe in the OR.

Good luck
