When I was in the navy nurse corps we used CRNA's for everything, and they were very independent. I have not worked with CRNA's in a very long time since in left the navy. I wanted to go to school for this specialty, but I've been told that all CRNA's do is monitor the patient in the O.R. for the MD. I know CRNA's, in my area,(S.Calif), are limited to a few hospitals. What really goes on in the civilian side of the house?

It all depends on where you practice.....many of the rural areas involve CRNAs as sole practitioners and visa versa in the bigger cities.

Well let's see...
Considering the average CRNA salary, I would imagine that if the only thing that the CRNA did was to monitor the PT in the OR for the MD, then the field would be overwhelmingly saturated!

well i go to school at kaiser, all the kaisers except one use crnas, plus several hospitals we use for clinicals outside kaiser use them. crnas are used more readily in s cali than you may expect.
