Red face Just Started Clinical Rotation

So I just started my clinical rotation and I was wondering how you all felt on your first day. I can already see all the drama that lies ahead. I want to say that I love this profession with all my heart. I've wanted to do this for a very long time. I also witnessed some not so great behavior by the staff and this is one of the best hospitals in to city, great reputation. Any of you out there have some pearls of wisdom? I would really appreciate it.

Re: Just Started Clinical Rotation

My first day was good, but no one knew I was starting that day, so helped a CNA all day. Everyone gets along great, from what I can tell. I've heard that saying about nurses "eating their young", may be true, just not necessarily on my unit. With that being said, I felt overwhelmed at the turn over and amount of work. (icu, pcu) Crazy, running like the proverbial chicken. Fun, day goes by quick. Just remember, there are always crapheads no matter where you go, no matter their education level......

Its rough, my 2 invaluable cents that got me thru??
"Smile, put up, shut up, ask for more, learn all you can, even from the jerks, dont rock the boat, remember it hurts to learn, and you never learn anything on a perfect day,it'll be over before you know it and all the pain will be worth it."
Good luck, it really is worth it!!!!!!

I like it

I try and remember what a ER doc used to always say on those bad nights(28 beds full, 30 people in triage and 5 ems units incoming).

Well atleast they can't eat us

Take what you see with a grain of salt, because you don't have the full story, and try not to judge the nurses on the units you go to, by what you see. Because that's kinding of liking judging someone's insides by their outsides and that's not fair.

Also, though be mindful and observant of the type of nurse you don't want to be.

Good luck to you!
