Lightbulb Highschool student help

hi i am a high school student and for the past 2 years have been interested in anesthesiology and have been researching it to make sure that this is the career that i really want to pursue. I am very anxious and feel that it is never too late to prepare for the GRE test. So can anyone tell me what kind of things I need to study because the way i see it the more i study for it i will know it like to back of my hand. HELP

My main suggestion is please, just enjoy being 16 right now!!!

I suggest you find a CRNA or MDA to talk with and possibly "shadow" them for a day and see if you really are interested the field. And forget about studying for the GRE right now, worry about that during your junior or senior year of college. However, there are GRE prep books found at any book store if you are that interested.

Good luck

Are you interested in anesthesiology or nurse anesthesia? Anesthesiologists are physicians who complete 4 years of college, 4 years of med school, and then a residency in anesthesia. Nurse anesthetists complete a 4 year nursing degree, work for at least a year in critical care nursing, and then spend 2 years in a nurse anesthesia program. If you are interested in the profession I would suggest studying hard and getting good grades, shadowing, and researching the profession. Check out www.aana.com or look through the old posts on this forum for more info.

I love that you are looking ahead! Good for you! After HS I would suggest classes that prep for medical such as biology, anatomy, physiology, o-chem etc. Enjoy school while you can. Look into scholarships. Many anasthesiologists are pushing their sons and daughters into becoming CRNAs instead of MDAs. Try to find those people and talk to them for their reasoning. I know Miller(author of many anesthesia books, his daughter is becoming a CRNA at Samuel Merritt, Sr. this year). Really nice person.
