I am currently in a BSN program and thinking of going to CRNA in the future. The school I am at says that you should not be able to make an A in the nursing program. So far they are sticking to this. So, my question is what type of GPA do I need. I currently have around a 3.2 GPA.

Also, please tell me what school you are in or finished from.

Obviously in a time of highly competitive applicant pools, you will want to maximize your potential to gain acceptance into a program. Although overall GPA is considered, there are a multitude of other factors that govern the decision to admit someone into an anesthesia school. Among these factors are quantity/quality of work experience, GRE scores, interview, science GPA, and personal statement to name a few. Different schools are looking for different applicant profiles, and some place varying levels of emphasis on the different components of their applications. It certainly wouldn't hurt to contact the schools that you would like to attend and inquire how to best beef up your application. I know of people with less than stellar GPAs and GRE scores; however, there are other things about them that will make them great CRNAs.

Not be able to make an A? I went to some major league schools, U of Miami and Emory for my Master's degree, and I made A's. I did not pay off my instructors. I worked hard. I would contact the NLN as well as your Dean with your concerns.

My MSN is in Oncology Nursing. I received it in Atlanta Ga, at Emory University.
The only time I left Miami, and was I ever homesick !

The University to contact is Barry University. It is 6 blocks from my house and is a Fantastic place to go to school. Their Anesthesia school is an MS, not in nursing, in Anesthesiology. Here is the link to the dept.

Thanks, I have done some research on Barry and just wanted an opinion...there arent very many schools in Florida that offer a CRNA program...but I am preparing myself as much as I can even though I am only in an ADN program right now. Thanks again.

The bomb !!! Just a thought here though, IF you get your BSN at Barry and do very well, do you think it would increase your chances of getting into their CRNA program since they already know you are a good student and trained well because you are a Barry graduate already? Just a thought.

can't hurt. They also have a (perish the thought) Physician's assistant program, It is a fantastic school , named for a really great priest, monsignor Barry. It was the place they negotiated over Illian, the Cuban child, a neutral place, trusted by all, at the time.
I have lived in this house for 21 years, just a few blocks from Barry and the local student hang outs are nice as well. It used to be an all girls school but went co ed and has some good athletics.
Mostly basketball.

When it comes time to speak on Oncology for Forensic Nursing, I get the call to ride my bike over there and do my lecture thing.

Another good thing about Barry, if you are a working Nurse, you get 1/3 off your tuition.
