[Mother's Love]

I would like to begin by saying this is a great message board and I find the information here invaluable. I've been aspiring to become a CRNA since 1999. Nursing has been the family profession and it made perfect sense for me to become a nurse. I'm the mother of four children (14, 12, 11, 9) and have been divorced for six years now (I'm raising the children on my own) and decided to go back to school this year. I've heard many opinions about mothers working, going to school and trying to raise a family, however, I'm living proof that it can be done. I must say that luck truly is on my side because I live 15 minutes from CWRU and have been researching endlessly about their program. My question is I've never heard anyone on this board mention this school and would like a little feedback on their program or if anyone has attended. Thanks so much for all the advice.

I went to CWRU, but I don't know much about their basic CRNA program. I was already a CRNA, and went to their completion MSN program.

They have a great distance learning set up. I know you are only 15 minutes away, but other might like to know about it. You can get a 3 hour course by going to class for five eight hour days. They call them "intensives", and they are intense. Now people have more options, what with online classes and all. But when I was looking, this was a great way to get a graduate degree without interfering with full time employment.

Another great feature about this program is that you can get a MSN for only 18 hours of study, if you are already a CRNA. Can't beat it.

But back to your question. When I was there they had two hospital programs affiliated with the university. So students were actually enrolled at Cleveland Clinic or Mt. Sianai. They all took 5 core courses together at Case. Those were basically the same 5 courses I had to take, so I was in class with SRNAs sometimes. I don't know if it was an option, or if they were required to take some core courses in the intensive format. Each set of students had their anesthesia courses and clinical experience at their respective hospitals.

One of the directors at that point was Jack Kless. Great guy, he was the instructor for one of my courses and did a good job. He is active in our association, I saw him at the national meeting last summer.

I loved my Case experience. The University itself is a world class center of research.

I can tell you that when USNews had a rating system for CRNA programs that Case was in the top 5. It has a good reputation, especially in Nursing.

That's my two cents.

does anyone know where I could find a free list of the top crna programs. I am currently enrolled in one and would like to know where it is in comparison to the others.

I cannot remember the website I was visiting rececently, but Case was ranked in the top three best CRNA programs.
