Arrow Essential Concepts!

Hey guys and girls,
just a quick question---(in your opinion) what are some of the essential concepts or topics to have a firm grasp and understanding of before CRNA school?

Re: Essential Concepts!

I few things come to mind:

1) the location of your school
2) your class schedule
3) how to take notes

heh - really - I would highly suggest not reading anything healthcare related before you start school. You're going to get enough of that stuff while in school, why be a glutton for punishment? Just relax and spend some quality time doing absolutely nothing.

where you will be doing your clinical rotations....is it near the classroom...will you have to move?

Re: Essential Concepts!

I am starting school in August this year. One of the girls I work with is in school now and I was looking at her homework. All the gas laws from physics are in there and she said you have to know those. I can't remember my physics, so I bought Physics for Dummies and started reviewing them. I had such a struggle with the class the first time, I don't want to struggle again. The book is great.

I also bought Anesthesia Secrets because several people have posted they read it before starting school and they felt it helped.

I know, I am a total geek! I have been out of school for 11 years so I am a bit rusty. I am not killing myself over the books, just reviewing!!

Well, you probably wouldn't have gotten into school if you didn't already have a firm grasp of pressors, vents, and ABGs. We were required to do summer reading before school started which included info. mainly on pharmacology and the autonomic nervous system.

Piper says it best. What I would not do right now to just do nothing and not have a care about what I should be doing. Make sure that you get enough relaxation because you will be fighting to get a day is relaxation before you know it. Take advantange while you can.

If you are still resisting the advice of those that are wishing they could have the luxury of having that relaxation time. My suggestions would be to look over; Chemistry: periodic table, pH, acid, bases. Physics: gas laws
Physiology: cell structure, diffusion, osmosis, action potential. That should get you started.
