did you have a hard time finding work?

I keep hearing here and there that CRNA's don't have a lot of job offers?
how true is that? i mean , i know to an extent since it is a specialty that you're not as widely recruited as a regular nurse, but still. did you have a hard time looking for work?
one thing i keep hearing is that many hospitals don't need CRNAs

It does depend somewhat on the area, Utah, for example, does not have many jobs, they are there, but you can only find them with a lot of probing.

Whats up with Utah? Do Mormons not believe in surgery or something?
seriously, every state has a CRNA shortage. I've never heard of anybody having trouble finding a job

Whats up, is that some states are more desirable to live in than others. For example, Colorado. In colorado the Anesthesiologists have a huge presence and are very influential. So much so that they bullied the governor into withdrawing a request to grant independant practice to CRNAs. I looked into jobs in Reno Nevada and found a similar situation to Colorado. Anesthesiologist only practices dominated the landscape. Federal jobs exist, but are few and far between. If you are willing to move to a less desirable local, you will find jobs a plenty.

Becoming a CRNA is something that interests me, but you're totally right about Reno, NV. I'm in Reno in a BSN program, but I'm interested in shadowing a CRNA and I'm having a very hard time finding one locally! It's all MDAs here. I found that the hospital out in Elko is mostly CRNAs for that hospital's anesthesia group, but that's 300 miles away. I think I may have to wait until I'm done with my BSN before I continue my quest to shadow a CRNA.

how do you shadow CRNA's? and is that something that you have to do on your own? is it a requirement for the program?

agreed, Utah, Nevada and Colorado are exceptions
can you imagine how many mormon anesthesiologist there are? where do you think they want to live? aside from being a desirable state to live as Nilepoc stated these guys also have serveral generations of family in utah so the market is bad for us in these few states.

There are currently jobs in Philly, but I see the market becoming saturated very soon because there are so many ******* students here!!! I was also told the Phoenix, AZ area is bad for CRNAs d/t MDA monopoly.
