CRNA subspecialty training/residency/fellowship possible and where

I want to first apologize for posting on a CRNA board (and haven't applied to school yet). I have a specific question that I feel no other forum is capable of answering. I hope this isn't a stupid question. I would like to know if it is possible to, after anesthesia school and becoming licensed, to reenter education (sort of like a fellowship) to specialize or gain more specific training in a certain area. In my situation, I am very interested in trauma. I know that this is part of the curiculum of nurse anesthesia school in many areas. I am just curious to know if it is possible to have type of residency/fellowship in a specialized area sort of like an anesthesiologist. If so, does anyone have any schools/hospitals doing this and a link, etc. Thank you!

Re: CRNA subspecialty training/residency/fellowship possible and where

There are hospitals that deal specifically with trauma patients like R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Maryland. A quote from their website:

The MDs and CRNAs of the Section are the acknowledged national experts on anesthesia for trauma care, are sought out for textbook chapters in the Anesthesia, Surgical, and Critical Care arenas, and serve as invited speakers at local, national, and international conferences on a regular basis.

It may not be a formal fellowship, but it's gotta be the next best thing.

Thanks. I feel that placing lines, running codes, etc (the side things that some hospitals want CRNAs to do) sounds more interesting than an OR case...but I don't think it sounds boring at all- in any area. Thanks again.

I believe Wayne State's program has a Post-Master's certificate in pediatric anesthesia for CRNAs. Same with Univ of Southern Cal.
