Does anyone out there have any pointers on how to study best for chemistry or know of any dummies guides to chem?

Start from the basics. Memorize the basics. Then do all of the homework at least twice! When you can do this, try doing the homework with out your cheat sheets and only from memory.
Get a student tutor. It helps.
