Howdy all!

I love this forum. There hasn't been a day since I discovered this site that I haven't visited and read some posts!

Anyway, my question is--Do most schools allow you to apply to their programs if you haven't quite graduated yet?

For example, I plan on getting my BSN this December, but most of the deadlines for Aug. 2005 are before I offically graduate. I have talked to a couple programs and they said that they have made provisions before for people like me, where they will consider your application anway and you just turn in your complete transcript when you can. It is okay as long you can get it to them before they start interviewing.

Just curious if any other students were in this situation or anyone else who has any info on this topic. (By the way, I already have a year and a half ICU experience and will have all of the required things buy the deadline except for a completed transcript.)

some schools i am familiar with. kaiser in pasadena will accept your application if you are scheduled to be finished with you bsn before school starts (i assume this is still the same as when i applied)
lsu in new orleans used to want your bsn front and center in your packet,
i think there is a mix. you just gotta go find them.

I say go for it! There is a good chance you could get in, and even if you did not it would give you experience in the interview process and feedback on what else you might need for the programs you are interested in. I can not think of a single reason why you shouldn't apply.

I was accepted at TWU in Jan 03, prior to graduating in May 03 with BSN. Had 9 years experience as ADN. Shouldn't be a prob as long as you have graduated before classes start.

I'm a little confused about several of your responses to this question. SInce the CRNA schools require at least one year critical care (they define) experience, are you saying that you can apply if you haven't graduated yet??? I was thinking that you needed to graduate with your BSN, THEN work, then go into the CRNA school.

For instance with me: I'm still taking my pre-req's. When I'm accepted into a Nursing program, can I work as a tech or something in critical care then once I graduate, go straight in a CRNA program (providing that I'm accepted ). IF that's the case, that will take about a year off of the time that I can get in.

(I hope this makes some sense.)

The critical care experience requirement only works if you are an RN. I have been an RN in the ICU for a year and a half. If you are a tech or something it won't work. I recieved my ADN and RN cert, then started working ICU. That might be a possibility for you. I am currently finishing my BSN while working as an RN in ICU.

i think the confusion lies in where someone with an adn degree goes back for their bsn, while already having been in the workforce.
