Can anyone given me any insite regarding the Baylor CRNA program in Houston? Thanks!

Baylor in a very god program. I will start it on June 27th. Interviewed two weeks ago and loved it. They accept 12-13 out of about 100apps. The director seemed real good, they hold very high expectations for the NA students since the program is within the Baylor Dept of Anesthesiology. IT is front loaded very heavily in sciences. Physics, genetics, pharm, you take the same AP class as the med students and get full access to the cadaver lab so not as much book learning for anatomy. THe sim lab is top notch.

The Clinical portion is pretty intense. All requirments set by the accerditing body are almost doubled. For instense not sure of exact numbers but say 8oo hrs of general anesthesia is required Baylor's average is 1700hrs, Alines 40, baylor 150.

During clinicals you are in OR 80 hrs a week. 24hr weekend call on some weekends and 3p-6a call on some days during week. Bentaub is a Houston's main county hospital so you get alot of high risk OB cases. It also has a level 1 trauma center so alot of trauma. You also have a 2month CV rotation at Methodist so you get a ton of CV during that time. They have 100% pass rate on boards. All in all I saw it to be a great program and chose it over several other i had been accepted to. Wish me luck.

Am looking into the Houston programs and am curious as to if you are considering the UT at Houson's program and if not, why? I am relocating from NC and therefore know absolutely nothing about the area/programs. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have friend at UT Houston and they seem to like it. The didactic phase has more fluff nursing theory classes that everyone loves to hate. UT Houston gives a MSN Nurse Anesthesia while Baylor grants a MS nurse anesthesia. Both programs are ranked in the top 10 in US News and World report ranking of grad schools. UT students may get more PEDS exp while Baylor more CV and CT surgery. Id say both programs are strong. UT is quit a bit cheaper if you are in state Texas resident. I start at Baylor in June and think the program is great from what I have seen.
