Anyone start school over 50?

I was wondering if anyone is or knows a CRNA that didn't go to anesthesia school until they were older, (like late 40's or into their 50's)? I have a masters in chemistry, and just started nursing school at age 47. I know I have the academic ability, but I worry about the stamina.

I have a friend who is pursuing his P.A. ~ he's in his 60's. He has amazing stamina, works out regularly, etc. He's truly an inspiration!! He figures he has ten good years left to work!!

Hi Lesli61,

Where I'm at, we don't have a CRNA program. However, in our RN-BSN and MSN programs we have quite a few nurses over 50.

Age is just a number - I say GO FOR IT if that's what you want!!!!

Best of luck to you,
Nadja

Re: Anyone start school over 50?

I just graduated from the PN program and will be 48 this month. I'm going on to get a RN degree so I'll be 50 when I get there. I've always been about 20+ years behind where I should be but at least I'm getting there....Isn't 50 the new 30? LOL

Re: Anyone start school over 50?

I know of a nurse who was 51 when he started CRNA school here in NC...I do not know him directly but he is a friend of a friend...I think he is also the student rep to the local AANA.

In my class, the oldest are 51, 50, and 42 (myself). We're all doing fine.

Re: Anyone start school over 50?

Okay, that makes ME the old girl in the group! I am 57, teaching 24 years, and applying right now to 2nd degree BSN. Finished with all my pre-reqs but one. And oh yeah, I still have lots of stamina! That's all mental, don't you think? One more thing......I'll be taking a big pay cut.
