Smile Nursing success stories?

Hello, I will be starting nursing school in the fall and of course a little nervous. I've been reading through alot of the forums trying to get a better feel for what I am embarking on, but I can't seem to find many happy nursing stories. Does anyone have any experiences they could share where they have touched others lives through their nursing career or how their lives have been touched. Or even just some words of wisdom!

Thanks so much

There's a very good thread about this and it's either in the nursing student or pre-nursing forum. Do a search and u should find it. It is many pages long and I think u will benefit greatly from reading it. I know I did. I was in your boat, reading all these posts and I got scared and started to doubt i had the kahunas to undertake such a huge commitment but everyone comes from such different backgrounds and you'll no doubt find someone who is like u. Good luck!

I started the forum and it's on the student nurse thread. Not the pre nursing one but the other one. I just thought I would ask the simple question as you did and boy did I get responses. I was also just in the hospital as a patient and all the nurses there were very friendly and happy to be there with me. I have known some really burned out nurses, but they worked at the DMC. I don't know why they felt that way, but they said the company was working their tails off. I was a patient at Oakwood and everyone was in a good mood there. Go check out that forum, and enjoy.

Re: Nursing success stories?

I have a success story for you. I'm a RN in MD, but am from MI. Anhow, couple years ago my parents were both patients at Sparrow Hospital. They were in and out for a year and a half. Won't go into the boring details...but let's just say Dad was an alcoholic and not always the easiest to deal with. Mom was darn near a saint. So, anyhow, the nurses at Sparrow were tremendous. My best story is, when all of Mom's hair color had faded out, one of the nurses stayed after her shift, and dyed my Mom's hair!!Unbelievable! And the night before Mom died, Dad's nurse (he was across the hall) put him in a wheel chair, gowned and gloved him up and took him in to sit with Mom. They were all truelly a blessing, a true credit to the profession. Now, the social workers, that's another story!! I think they had ice water flowing thru their veins.

Re: Nursing success stories?

Nurses usually come to boards like this to vent or ask for advice. What kind of experience are you looking for? At 21 I had my first child, the father decided he didn't want to be one so I became a single mom. I had the best l&d nurse! She was supportive in every way. She was my aspiration. I wanted to help people in the same way. Many different avenues in nursing though....in my l&d clinical, I helped deliver a baby...and I cried. It was such a great experience though.
